Carrot is a popular vegetable in the world over. It has a powerful cleansing ability. The Green carrot leaves are highly nutritious, rich in proteins, minerals and vitamins. There are many varieties of carrot, broadly they can be classified into two groups namely; Asiatic and European.

The carrot appears to have originated in central Asia; in the hill of Punjab and kashmer in India with a secondary Centre of distribution in Asia, Europe and North Africa around the mediterean.

It is highly cultivated in India, Malaysia, Indonesia, West Africa, South Africa and Caribbean


Carrot is extremely rich in Vit A. The chemical constituent in carrot is called Carotene, is described in a form of pro-vitamin. Carotene is converted into vitamin A by the liver and it is stored in the body. Chewing carrots increases saliva and quickens digestion by supplying the necessary enzymes, minerals and vitamins. Regular use of carrot prevents the formation of gastric ulcer and other digestive disorders.

Carrot juice is an effective food remedy in ailments like intestinal colic, colitis, appendicitis, peptic ulcer and dyspepsia.

Management of Diarrhea

The carrot soup has been found an effective natural remedy for diarrhea. It supplies fluid to carbohydrates replenishes sodium, potassium, calcium, sulphur and magnesium. Carrots also produce pectin which helps to coat the intestine to allay inflammation. It also prevents the growth of bacteria and prevents vomiting.

Preparation of Carrot for Children

For children 1/2kg of carrot can be cooked in 150ml of water until it is soft. The pulp should be strained. 31/3 table spoon of salt may be added and a small amount is given to the patient four to five times daily and the patient is monitored for 24hours.


Carrot seeds should be avoided during early period of pregnancy, because it increase the toxicity of uterine walls and may cause abortion. Never ignore carrot it can keep you and your family healthy.
